How to Set Up a Home Golf Simulator (Complete Guide)
Step-by-step setup guide for a home golf simulator. Covers room requirements, component placement, software installation, and calibration.
Setting up a home golf simulator is a 5-step process: choose your launch monitor, set up the enclosure and screen, mount the projector, connect the software, and calibrate. This guide walks through each step.
Step 1: Choose your launch monitor. The launch monitor is the most important purchase. Camera-based units like the Bushnell Launch Pro work better indoors. Radar units like the FlightScope Mevo+ work better outdoors but also function indoors with enough room depth.
Step 2: Set up your enclosure. The enclosure frames your screen and catches errant shots. Standard home setups use a 10x10 or 12x10 enclosure. A 12x10 enclosure gives you more room to swing comfortably and catches more wide shots. Set the frame first, then attach the side barriers, then hang the impact screen.
Step 3: Mount the projector. Measure the throw distance from your projector mount point to the screen. Use the projector's throw ratio to calculate the image size. Mount the projector on a solid ceiling bracket. Center it horizontally to the screen. Aim slightly downward to fill the screen evenly.
Step 4: Connect the software. Install your simulator software on a Windows PC or iPad. Open the software and go to settings to select your launch monitor. Follow the pairing instructions for your specific monitor. Most modern monitors connect via WiFi or Bluetooth.
Step 5: Calibrate. Put a ball in position. Hit a few shots to verify the data is reading correctly. Adjust the monitor position according to its manual if the data looks off. Most photometric monitors need to be aligned precisely with the ball position.
